The city of Olbia is situated in the north east of Sardinia, and can be reached both by sea and by air. There are two itineraries which can be followed for reaching this locality, a quick route which is almost completely composed of dual carriageway (time required about 2 and a half hours), while the other is much more tortuous, but is certainly more suggestive, crossing the S.S. (main road) 125 "Orientale Sarda" (‘Eastern Sardinian’) (time required about 3 and a half hours).
Dual Carrriageway Route
Leaving the airport or coming from the port, you must take the direction towards
Sassari, and after about 1 Kilometre (1/3 mile), take the approach ramp on the
right in the direction of San Teodoro/Siniscola on the new stretch of the dual
carriageway Olbia - Nuoro.
At the end of the first stretch of dual carriageway, take the direction of San
Teodoro and follow the road signs for Nuoro. Having passed the exit for San
Teodoro, you will get back onto the dual carriageway until reaching Nuoro.
At the outskirts of Nuoro, follow the road signs for Lanusei, and go for about
70 km (44 miles) along the new dual carriageway.
At the end of the dual carriageway, after just having passed the built up area
of Villanova Strisaili, you need to turn left in the direction of Villagrande
Strisaili, driving beside the woodlands of Santa Barbara and following the road
signs for Tortolì/Arbatax, you will arrive at your destination.
Panoramic Route
In order to avoid the chaotic traffic between Olbia e San Teodoro, the first
part of this route is the same as the dual carriageway route.
At San Teodoro, continue following the road signs for Orosei, where you will
arrive after having passed the localities of Budoni, Posada and Siniscola.
At Orosei, follow the road signs for Dorgali, and from here continue on towards
Baunei, passing through the Silana Pass and admiring the splendid mountainous
scenery with the magnificent view of the Su Gorroppu gorge, close to the Tiscali
Village.
After having passed Baunei, continue onwards to Arbatax, crossing through the
built up areas of Lotzorai and Girasole, to arrive at your destination.
